AIM doesn't offer strong anonymity, no IM does. However, unless you're paranoid enough to worry about anons getting a sysadmin job at AOL to steal ur megahurtz (or further into the realms of fantasy, forming a conspiracy to do stateful packet inspection / flow analysis at major ISPs or peering points I suppose) it's good enough.
