I was walking downtown at the holiday market this afternoon, there was the smell of spiced wine, pastries. Friendly faces everywhere, talking low about their hopes and the simple joys of life. A child began singing some little nonsense song in the most perfect voice and the talking died down as the crowd was caught up in the sound. I looked up and saw these fat snow flakes just drifting lazily through the sky. It was one of those moments when all the shit I have been carrying around in my head suddenly didn't matter. I just knew that life is so painfully beautiful, and that ultimately none of the bullshit we get so wrapped up in matters. Then all I could think about was you Lia, I hope you find whatever it is that makes you happiest in life. My only wish for this new year is your wellbeing.

I am moved by your words. I remember some of those all too brief moments of bliss, which do catch us when we least expect it. They are what makes life worth living, like pearls you might find in seas of harsh sand. I join you in hoping the Holy Avatar is happy during these festive days of men, and I hope she doesn’t feel the stigma of the visit of the Sky Queen too deeply; for I understand these were trying times for her.

I also wish, but for all our brethren this time, that she does forgive all our foolishness and any of the insolence and distress we may have imposed on her. I do believe some of us feel some guilt, and it would be nice to feel forgiven, even if only briefly.

For this, I choose to remember her smiling.

Blessed be the Sky, for it houses Our Lady, may She see fit to grant Her Avatar some long deserved forgetfulness as She looks upon us all with her boundless kindness.
