>catharsis macht frei
I've been enjoying the subtle depth of this since you posted it. In fact there is a parallel that can be drawn between "catharsis macht frei" and the original "Arbeit macht frei". Those unlucky enough to have been sent to a concentration camp were told that they would gain freedom through work, yet no matter how much or how hard they worked they were enslaved. Our position is similar. We all know of the cathartic properties of Cracky's photographs yet we too are enslaved. Catharsis does not grant freedom, all it does is plunge us deeper down the rabbit's hole. There is no escape for there is no end. As cathartic as it may be we are slaves to the knowledge that she will never be ours.
