Sorry. Don't get the "goofy-time" reference. You'll have to explain what exactly you meant by that to me.
As to what I meant by using the word "Daddy" - which, as far as I'm aware, usually IS capitalized when one writes it, no? - I was just raising what really is a rather interesting issue: the way that all you /b/board guys love to act the role of the "nihilistic, iconoclastic would-be patricides" who laugh at and spit on the conformist value-systems of your middle-manager, house-owning fathers.....and yet, in the heat of argument, reveal that you share this very same conformist, conservative value-system, probably even in an aggravated form, expressing contempt for someone like me for having dared to reach the age of 50 WITHOUT a job, a mortgage, social support and recognition etc.
One of the great "heroes" of your little world, Merovin, is a very typical example here. One minute he's playing the two-fisted, wild-man, Hemingway-esque outlaw, boasting about how much whisky he drinks and how many bitches he's fucked and how no society of collar-and-tie-wearing conformists could ever possibly hold an irreverent free spirit like him. The next he's boasting about how his excerpts from his Bachelor's thesis in Law and Management was given a distinction by his tutor and published in the college magazine.
It takes a hell of a lot of courage, determination and intelligence to break out of the mechanisms whereby young men inevitably turn, in a few years, into the very people they spent a while rebelling against. Too often, the very rituals of rebellion are a training course in "becoming a man like Daddy".
I was intelligent, courageous and determined enough to escape all that. Save your pity for the day you've managed to do the same.
