Jesus, I'm shooting off gem after gem here and the first compliment I get is for something I stole from Willy Wonka.

It is kind of beautiful, though, I admit, and the original movie is a very odd thing altogether. Almost unbearably naff over long stretches, with its bland Austrian location shots and even blander imported American child stars (much, much worse, in these scenes, than the generally evenly so-so Tim Burton remake). And then coming to hideous beautiful life in the scenes with the manic, dangerous, believably genuinely unbalanced and dangerous Wilder.
