Salutations,
I'm co-GM of a rather new but potentially rather good raiding guild. Please read on if you are Alliance on US realms and looking for a stellar group of good chaps (and chapettes) to have a jolly good time slaying some rather brutish internet dragons.
Our guild is currently in need of some solid man-power to keep fueling it. We were founded after Wrath originally as a 10-man guild, but shortly before Ulduar came out we decided we wanted to set our sights on expanding to 25s. We have cleared 25m Naxx every week since, but mostly through casual guild alliances and pugging the spots we could not fill. We have recruited a few people this way, but in order for us to seriously enter Ulduar we are about 8-10 good, solid raiders short of a dedicated raid team.
This is where you come in.
The Stone of Jordan on Maelstrom Alliance is looking for more. We seek players of above average to exceptional skill who are intelligent, proficient in their class, and can commit to a regular schedule of raiding. You don't have to have 100% attendance, we are just looking for people who will be there as much as they can be, and who are prepared to put in the work that's necessary to make this game fun.
So why should I join the Stone of Jordan?
We are extremely sociable, friendly and humorous. We enjoy talking on vent even when not raiding and spend most of our time making (in)appropriate jokes, puns, and entendres. Everyone who comes to our raids says "You guys are cool to hang with".
Our leaders and officers have been playing WoW since release, have raided almost all the content since, and have played most classes to 60 or above, so we collectively have a very good understanding of how both individual classes and the raid as a whole should function. You can count on us to know what's going on most of the time, and won't have to deal with ignorance or poor leadership.
We are very laid-back about loot for the most part; we frown upon people who get upset over it (without good cause, that is). Whilst loot is part of why we raid, we try not to let it control our actions or cloud our vision, and members often pass to eachother if someone needs a particular item badly. We have the mentality that every piece of loot the raid as a whole receives makes it stronger, and it's in our interest to gear all our players as fairly as possible.
We are a very generous guild, and are happy to help anyone who puts in the time and effort to come to our raids in making their character better and fielding raid supplies. We have a 100g/day allowance for guild bank repairs (more for our main tanks), and will often give out free flasks, potions, food etc during raids. We'll help you with gemming, speccing, glyphing and so on if you need it. We are NOT a charity, but we believe that you get out what you put in, so we have no problem helping you if you need it.
Our members are also extremely helpful, again not to the point where we're willing to be taken advantage of, but if you need a Heroic run or something crafted, or a port or something for your alt, the chances are someone will be willing to help you in the near future.
Finally, we are not yet very progressed but all of our current members understand the fundamental ways progression is made, have previous experience doing so (with credentials in near- or full- clears of all pre-BC and BC content), and are willing to put in the effort needed. What we lack is quite simply more of this type of person, and it is the only thing holding us back.
What about the technicalities?
Raid invites go out at 6pm CST, which is server time, and raids tend to last until 10/11pm. We do 25s on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and run 10s on Fridays (sometimes with continuation over the weekend). We are currently undermanning (but fully clearing) all pre-Ulduar 25man raids whilst we recruit in preparation for a strong team for Ulduar.
Our 10-man is currently working on Mimiron, whom we'll most likely have down before or during next week. We've only recently had the opportunity to start attempting him due to time constraints, so this is more a reflection of us not spending a lot of time in our 10s in weeks prior than not being capable of doing so.
We have been using a DKP system that is designed to be friendly to those we PUG (they start off with some points to spend) which has in itself helped us recruit a few people. As soon as we have a full, core team of 25 people we will be switching to full-time loot council (and we use that system in our 10 mans already).
Okay, so what and who are you guys recruiting?
Firstly, if you're a good player who's interested, we urge you to apply no matter what class you play- the odds are currently that we can fit you in. However, we are specifically recruiting the following:
1 Shadow Priest
1 Holy Priest
2 Rogues
1 Hunter (preferably MM)
1-2 Resto Shamans
1 Unholy Death Knight
1-2 Holy Paladins
1 Resto Druid and (possibly) a Moonkin and Feral.
We have a couple people who already fill some of these roles, but their real-life schedules are not stable enough that they can attend nearly every raid, and some of this is pre-emptive recruitment (losing people to the military, summer break, etc).
Sounds good, how can I find out more?
Contact an officer in the guild in-game-- Andromache, Vivielle, Phalanxe or Alimea, either by whisper or in-game mail. We'll talk on vent and go from there. Even if you're not sure if you want to apply yet, you're welcome to ask any questions or just have a chat with us if we interest you in the slightest.
On a final note, if you choose to armory us, we do have a fair chunk of our core raiders (probably about 6-8) who are not in our guild. We treat these people like guild members and in return they behave like guild members. We respect the fact that these people have social guilds they wish to stay in and we don't force people to join SoJ just to raid with us.
That said, all our raids are run by us under our guild tag and by our rules at the times we specify. We do not like to re-invite people not in the Stone of Jordan unless they have committed to raid with us on a consistent basis.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for your time. Reply post haste!
