Mad props to the old school. People see all these WWII veterans on TV and listen to them describe all the major events of their service in a calm collected manner, and never really get to see the whole of it. Everyone who comes back is scarred inside and out, but that generation was built of better stuff than we are. Nowadays on the fob you have air conditioning, video games, ffs you can get Burger King and Popeye's. It's funny that the stuff that would have made me a useful soldier back then is considered detrimental to my unit.
I may enlist in the French Foreign Legion when I ETS. At least I would be doing something productive. I know there a few other ex military in here with me, do you ever wake up feeling strange that you aren't back there? Is the real world ever trip you out with careless people are?
