modern squalor is really quite civilized.
i think society has really advanced quite a bit since the old mud floor days which really weren't all that long ago in the span of human history (less than 2 centuries out of several millennia of humanity) and it gives me hope and happiness for equal or greater improvement in our lifetimes.
