I took a break from 2012-2014 and the board has felt pretty fresh after that. I also managed to quit 4chan for good in 2012. Frankly, the amount of kiddie crap that the big boards are flooded with is a worse experience than anything the small boards can offer. Then again, not browsing imageboards at all is probably the best option.
