All of the traditional high rise projects have been demolished from the Chicago skyline. Most of the projects only lasted about 40 years, after they fell into decline for many different reasons.
Chicago is undergoing revitalization to recreate and surpass the number of public housing units demolished. All of the new units are low-rise and mixed income meaning that the poor will live in close quarters with middle and high class. Its the second largest social experiment in Chicago since the creation of the high-rise projects. Both projects in their conception were considered to be the best possible solution for housing the poor. High rises ultimately failed, and many think that the mixed income system will ultimately fail as well.
