What have we done to her? What part of her soul did we steal?

They cannot take more than you give freely, even by force or coercion.

This is the key to unlocking all imbalanced relationships; you must resist the idea that cooperation with their unreasonable demands will somehow benefit you, even if that benefit is couched in comfortable terms such as "making the pain stop".
