Is there anyone who hasn't played Cave Story?

>> No.3

I have not played it. Would it actually make my life better in some way or would it just take away massive amounts of my time and cause me to allow other aspects of life to deteriorate?

>> No.4

>>2

Yes, there are probably two or three people in some fourth-world hellhole somewhere that still haven't played ;)

>>3

You're on Wish - it couldn't deteriorate much further than this anyway. Download it.

(No offense intended, Suede)

Whats there to be offended about? When you kill your site everytime it has been up for a month or more and then abandon it for months at a time. Only to bring it back with an empty database you got to expect it to be shit.

That said I am glad it is back if for Ether and nothing else.

I just got up to where that girl asks if you want her machine gun. Why shouldn't I take it?

>>4
None taken.

>> No.7

So you can get the super badass gun at the end of the game and save curly's life.

;_; I din't save her, YOU HAVE TO SAVE CURLY, ROB

Schwill is correct. If you want the Spur, which is the strongest gun in the game in terms of sheer power (and due to the fact that you can charge it up to max level by holding the 'fire' button down, it doesn't use Stars like the other weapons).

Also, if you want to reach "Hell" the secret, EVIL as f--k level at game's end, one of the requirements is to SAVE CURLY. EVERY TIME.

Also, you MUST NOT talk to Booster in the Labyrinth. At some point there is going to be a HUGE PIT that you must jump over. If you look closely, there will be a red mark on the floor. If you jump at exactly that point, you will make it. If not, reload and try again.

This Is HELL:

On the advice of some namefags, Anonymous is now playing this game.

Two thoughts:

  1. Bubbler is love.
  2. I just brushed against you gently, now all your weapons suck.

Get a gamepad. Only way to truly enjoy the perfected old school physics. God damn this game is so well designed.

>1. Download this archive and install the filter driver (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe).
>2. Unpack ps3sixaxis_en.exe
>3. Plug the SIXAXIS into your PC.
>4. Run ps3sixaxis_en.exe once.
>5. Push the PS button on the SIXAXIS once if it doesn’t see it straight away.

It doesn't work :(

>> No.12

Oh, now it works. Though there are more buttons than Cave Story can map to.

As I'm sure you found, you can't use the main buttons or the shoulder buttons, since the Cave Story config will only let you map buttons 1-8, and those buttons are all in the 9-16 range.

But I found a program that might make the game actually playable with a Sixaxis:

http://www.redcl0ud.com/controlmk/index.html

This allows you to map any controller button to any keyboard function -- the game will think you're using a keyboard rather than a controller; the program will be converting the controller input to keyboard input.

Unfortunately, after I spent half an hour setting up the ControlMK profile just right, I found that the buttons in ControlMK don't match up with the Windows controller "Test" applet. For example, Windows shows that the Up button on the D-pad is button 5, but ControlMK thinks it's button 4 -- and there's no way to figure all this out by trial or error.

I'm just going to give up because it'd probably take an hour to get it all sorted out -- if anybody else figures it out, please export the config & post it. Otherwise I'm just going to play some games that are less gay.

I fell into a pit of water and died. I can't understand all the moonspeak so just skipped all dialogue. Game looks neat though -more 8bit types please!

It's in English for me...

Okay, I figured out how to use a Sixaxis properly with this.

  1. Do like >>11 said.
  2. Install this: http://www.redcl0ud.com/controlmk/index.html
  3. Start ComtrolMK and import the attached custom profile I built for Cave Story.
  4. Configure Cave Story to use KEYBOARD, not game pad.

Here are the mappings:

Up/Down/Left/Right - duh
Select - Map
X - Jump
Square, L1, R1 - Fire
Circle - Inventory
L2, R2 - Switch weapons

The only thing not mapped to a button is the Escape key, to prevent accidental resetting/quitting; if you just need to pause; use Circle (inventory).

Awesome! Nice one.

Fuck I took the Machine Gun.

I'll restart it later on, but for now, I like hovering over pits with it.
