Hi, Cambridge seemed less isolationist bewteen the colleges in my brief visits there. In Oxford you can slip between the social cracks and nobody would ever notice. I too would like to send a message back to myself to go the job/OU route even though I very much enjoyed pissing about as a student. Paying back that expenditure for what amounted to a piece of paper nobody has ever asked me to produce, not once, not ever took over my life for the last five years. I was relatively lucky that I came out with a managable debt, that is to say one that consumed almost evey last penny of my disposable income after bills. I can't begin to imagine what it is like for other people who owed more than £300 a month; that's half a mortgage right there, or two weekend breaks to Europe each month, either of which would generally speaking benefit a person more than three years of loosely-directed academic meandering.
