Well, I guess a PC has certain uses, like playing Xenogears in an emulator. However, there's a fight towards the end where the game will usually lock up if playing on an emulator (or even a PS2),so that's rather an annoyance to get past as it took me several tries.

Yeah, I'd say FFVIII is my favourite FF game. Third favourite game on PS1 after MGS and Team Buddies. I still haven't found it for download yet though.
